KDDI was contacted by a leading manufacturer who was looking
to open new factories and connect upwards of 60 branch offices
in Europe. The company required a high quality network with
which to link its additional offices to the central systems
in its Head Office so that employees in Europe could have access
to the same resources as those in London.
KDDI’s consultants met with the manufacturer to get
a full breakdown of the exact requirements and to understand
what infrastructure and security was already in place. Following
a review of the current network, we accompanied them to each
of their sites in Europe and consulted with them about their
plans for the future. One important factor was to plan for
growth, as it was envisaged that as manufacturing increased
they were going to substantially scale up the network. So it
was important for us to find the most cost effective method
to allow this.
Following the consultation process, we were in a position to
recommend a solution. Locating a new office in a different
country can be a particularly difficult operation if you do
not understand the local telephony market. Through our global
operations we have built up a wealth of experience in different
countries and were perfectly placed to help them. For their
larger offices and factories we recommended connection to KDDI’s Global IP-VPN. Not only did this provide a cost effective method
to get connected, but it also is highly secure and resilient,
because the network is MPLS and the architecture has full mesh
capability. Having full mesh capability means the network is
self healing so that if one link in the network is experiencing
problems, the network can carry on operating and circumvent
the problem area to ensure that no loss of service is experienced.
For the smaller satellite offices and certain partners to
access their network, we provided our SSL-VPN connection combined
with our ADSL and SDSL solutions around Europe. In this way
whilst the operations in certain countries were waiting to
achieve a critical mass, we were able to help them keep their
network costs well below their expectations.
The KDDI solution was considered superior to the other possible
options and we were contracted to implement the solution and
carry out much of the System
Integration (SI) work.
Our solution ensured that they are still able to efficiently
and cost effectively produce the best products in the World,
wherever they are made.
